After Hikaru and Nanami share an intimate moment, Amaterasu reveals that returning to their world requires purifying eight divine guardians. On their quest, they encounter a vengeful spirit revealed to be Nanami's former best friend, Chinatsu. After discovering a diary detailing the horrific abuse Chinatsu suffered in life, Nanami uses her love and remorse to soothe the spirit's pain, allowing her to pass on in peace. Meanwhile, the sinister Tsukuyomi grants Satori one final chance to thwart their progress.
